Synopsis

Siegfried Abel (he hates his name) discovers his high school sweetheart, Dana, is attending the same school he is after he transfers from a community college to a university. Her father beat her for dating Siegfried because he wasn’t from a wealthy family. The two resume their relationship and marry. Siegfried discovers that Dana carries a great deal of emotional/psychological damage from her father’s abuse. He repeatedly forgives her for infidelity and discovers she aborted their child without telling him she was expecting. Still, he does his best to care for her and bring healing. Eventually, she files for a no-fault divorce because she loves Siegfried and feels certain she will eventually destroy him. The divorce crushes Siegfried. Later, he finds love with someone he’s known for years, who has patiently waited for him. Lisa even befriended Dana and helped her through some of her worst moments. Siegfried then lives his dream and discovers that Dana has found purpose in her life by ministering to other battered and abused women. He realizes that some of his feelings for Dana stemmed from guilt over the suffering she endured for him, and that their relationship was doomed from the beginning. She, in turn, rejoices that he is now in a healthy marriage and relationship.
