Synopsis

Mrs. Dodge stepped forward and laid her hand on his arm.
“John?” she called in a strident voice that made Arabella wince. “John, here’s Arabella to see you.”
John rolled his head with a fitful movement, and the light from the lamp at the foot of his bed fell full across his face.
Arabella stepped back with a gasp of shock.

Arabella Bradford, happily employed behind the front counter of Whites’ General Store, lives for letters from her sweetheart, John Shaw, who is serving with his regiment in the Union army. But one terrible day, a letter arrives from a concerned citizen, notifying her that John Shaw has been wounded during the Battle of Gettysburg. Arabella rushes to the town to nurse him, and receives the surprise of her life. Will her world ever be right again?
