What good is a coroner when his feelings simply refuse to die?
I want to ask her if she believes in fate, or second chances. I want to ask her if she felt the same zip of awareness when we locked eyes earlier. I want to ask her if she’ll finally look at me and see someone worth her time.
Instead, I say, “See you around.”
You know, like a completely normal person that’s not still hung up on her.
When Ellie Woodward walks into her first day as a coroner’s intern, the last person she expects to see is Trystan Berrett–the man she told in no uncertain terms two years ago to leave her alone forever, who now works as a police officer in her building.
Trystan is not the man he was before though, suddenly aloof and serious, and the mystery of how he has changed so much in just two years threatens to take up most of her waking thoughts; well, that and the suspicious death of a politician’s brother. But when details of the grisly murder start to align with the plot of her boss’s popular crime thriller, Ellie has no choice but to work side by side with Trystan to find the killer before more people get hurt.
Trystan has worked hard to leave behind the immature persona of his college days, but when Ellie comes waltzing back into his life again, so do the feelings he had for her. Which is bad, because with a copycat killer on the loose, a promotion coming up, and the memory of her rejection two years ago, there’s no way this ends well for him.
He just has to guard his heart, or Ellie Woodward might just be the death of him.
