IMPORTANT: This is a short side story that takes place between Books 3 and 4. The author strongly advises it be read before Book 4 to get the most out of the series.
New Haven, Texas, 1870s
Doctor Beatrice Iverson and her niece Nellie are finally safe from the girl’s criminal father and happily settled in New Haven. Beatrice is ready to begin her dream— creating a medical school for young woman. But doing so might mean sacrificing what her neglected heart has always desired. Love. If only the handsome deputy who saved her life didn’t make her question which dream is more important.
For years, Deputy Brian O’Connell has been content to focus on his job, giving little thought to a future beyond keeping New Haven safe. Until Beatrice appears. Now, he’s wondering how she and little Nellie might fit into his life, even if he’s not sure he deserves them. He failed his own family, after all, and abandoned his faith in favor of resentment and anger.
As they each search for a way to either fulfill a dream or find a way to heal, they just might discover that it’s better to move forward together, no matter the obstacles that stand in their way.
*This is a sweet short story, related to the Bailey Saga. Kisses only, no swearing. A happily ever after is guaranteed!
