Synopsis

Gabriel Brown’s life shatters when he loses his beloved wife in childbirth and he is left caring for the baby. Not only does his premature infant son painfully remind him of the woman he’s lost, but it cries continually, keeping him from planting his fields.

Maggie O’Toole loses her husband and baby daughter in a tragic accident and is left penniless and homeless. Fate brings Maggie to Gabriel’s doorstep, where she seeks employment as a wet nurse, though she soon sees it as an act of God. Gabriel, on the other hand, has given up on God and fails to see how Maggie can still believe.

Maggie and Gabriel work to overcome the ghosts of their pasts, but tribulation continues to grow. Gabriel doesn’t have servant quarters, and Maggie needs a place to sleep. Is a marriage of convenience necessary . . . when their heart are still so vulnerable? And then there is the issue of Gabriel’s in-laws, the Diffleys, who have nothing but their own interests at heart.

As trouble seems to uproot everything in Maggie’s and Gabriel’s lives, decisions are made. But life remains daunting. Will God be there when Maggie and Gabriel need Him most? Can Gabriel learn to trust Him again? Can Maggie find the love her heart desires?
