Synopsis

Someone is using Clark’s Laundry to move stolen goods through Bell Court. Elsie Bellamy has already filled three pages of notes.
When Constable Antony Hale arrives to investigate a smuggling ring hidden inside the coat linings passing through Charlotte Clark’s hands, the last thing either of them expects is to need each other. Charlotte has rebuilt her life brick by careful brick since her husband’s death — she has no patience for police inquiries, interfering constables, or the unsettling way Antony Hale watches her when he thinks she isn’t looking.
Antony has a case to solve. He did not anticipate that the most complicated part of it would have nothing to do with smugglers.
And Elsie — notebook open, pencil poised — has noticed everything.
Some seams are designed to hide secrets. Some are simply waiting to come undone.
