When You Fake Date a Stranger

By Lia Huni

I am all about supporting those that write novels with disability inclusion and so when I saw Lia Huni’s next novel was going to have a character with Autism I jumped at the chance to read it early.

This was the first book I’ve read from Lia Huni and now I’m definitely going to be adding the rest of her books to my To Read list. This novel was so sweet with just the right amount of humor.

I absolutely loved the main guy Rob and was so impressed with Lia’s writing to make him believable as being on the edge of the spectrum. My husband is probably right about where Rob is on the spectrum so I was interested to see if I would see any similarities between them and there was quite a few.

I also loved Gina and how she was so down to earth, intellectual, and okay being herself. I love that he falls first and they both had the perfect chemistry with each other. Yes of course throughout the book they mentioned numerous times how hot they found each other but there was also depth and trust in their relationship and I loved that it was more of a slow burn between them.

Overall I loved this book and would recommend it to those that want a sweet romcom that includes disabilities and shows them in a true and great light.

Physical Intimacy: Lvl 2 (Kissing without too much detail, once mentions feeling heat in the lower regions but doesn’t say a specific body part)

Intimacy Levels

Level 1

  • Holding hands/Affectionate touching
  • Compliments/confessing love
  • Low-description kissing
  • Tender embraces/cuddling
  • Blushing and sighing
  • Non-descriptive discussions of sex
  • Established relationships
  • Fade to black if married
  • Any sexual encounters from past only referred to, not described or on-screen

Level 2

  • Touch that signals attraction
  • No touching in underwear zone
  • Long kisses, lightly descriptive
  • Deeper kisses, tongue implied not described
  • Feel warm/flushed
  • Gasping, deep sighs, light growls and groans
  • Thinking/speaking about desire non-descriptive
  • Fade to black for established relationships after a scene that matches this level – but may be unpopular if not married

Level 3

  • Hands moving, still not in underwear zone
  • French kiss with tongue described
  • Make-out sessions still follow guidelines
  • Feel hot, sweating
  • Heavier gasping, groaning, deep growls, panting
  • More frantic and lose some control
  • Male shirt may come off, but nothing else
  • Leg may straddle waist, but no mention of arousal
  • If they lay down together anywhere, use little description of contact/moving
  • May happen in a bedroom or on a bed, but should be interrupted or end with fade to black scene. Keep focus on the emotion.
  • Fade to black should still happen between married couples or at the end of the book between engaged/committed couples.
