Grounds for Impropriety

By Parker Roberts

Let’s be honest when my husband first mentioned he was going to write a Closed Door Romance with all my favorite things I thought he was joking. And yet days, weeks and then months went by with him writing this novel and he never gave up.

This book is so much more than a romance novel. It is a true testament to how much he cares and supports what I do as a Closed Door Romance Bookstagrammer!

So why do I love this book outside from my husband being the author?

First, I love that you really don’t know who the MMC is going to be right away! I thought it would bug me not knowing. But I loved wondering if it was going to be the Hollywood Actor, the quirky Millionaire, the broody Scottish guy, or the outgoing Relator.

I loved that all the characters from the main ones to the side ones have their own personalities! But two of my favorites outside the FMC and MMC are best guy friends who banter like Shawn and Gus from Pysch. They had me laughing all the time with their antics.

I love that the FMC is unknowingly on the autism spectrum. Who truly is okay spending her life hiding in her bookstore. But then her grandmother passes away and gives her a way to go on an adventure by leaving her some things in the will.

I love that the FMC has an amazingly supportive family who all have experienced trauma but have bonded through it. He gave Avi an amazing brother who is her advocate and would do anything for her. He’s a man who I wished my own brother would have become.

Finally he just weaves the perfect slow burn romance full of light higher banter, deep heartfelt moments and of course the perfect sweet kisses!

My husband has autism and even he admits he is not typically the most romantic guy. But my heart just melted when I realized not only is this a truly amazing romance book, but also a gift I will always cherish.

To all those that have supported me in my Bookstagram journey and are now supporting him in his writing debut we are so grateful!

Intimacy Levels

Level 1

  • Holding hands/Affectionate touching
  • Compliments/confessing love
  • Low-description kissing
  • Tender embraces/cuddling
  • Blushing and sighing
  • Non-descriptive discussions of sex
  • Established relationships
  • Fade to black if married
  • Any sexual encounters from past only referred to, not described or on-screen

Level 2

  • Touch that signals attraction
  • No touching in underwear zone
  • Long kisses, lightly descriptive
  • Deeper kisses, tongue implied not described
  • Feel warm/flushed
  • Gasping, deep sighs, light growls and groans
  • Thinking/speaking about desire non-descriptive
  • Fade to black for established relationships after a scene that matches this level – but may be unpopular if not married

Level 3

  • Hands moving, still not in underwear zone
  • French kiss with tongue described
  • Make-out sessions still follow guidelines
  • Feel hot, sweating
  • Heavier gasping, groaning, deep growls, panting
  • More frantic and lose some control
  • Male shirt may come off, but nothing else
  • Leg may straddle waist, but no mention of arousal
  • If they lay down together anywhere, use little description of contact/moving
  • May happen in a bedroom or on a bed, but should be interrupted or end with fade to black scene. Keep focus on the emotion.
  • Fade to black should still happen between married couples or at the end of the book between engaged/committed couples.
